Due to the issues the City Of Lies would have in terms of trying to generate buzz and publicity with Depp as the star, Global Road Entertainment chose to pull the film just one month before it was scheduled to hit theaters. Lawyers on both sides of the lawsuit are currently hashing out negotiations in an attempt to settle, but as of now, no new release date has been specified by distributor Global Road. The film is scheduled for a November 16 release.

City of Lies, a crime drama Johnny Depp stars in, has been yanked from its initial September 7 release. It was set to arrive on the 46th birthday of the Notorious BIG, whose murder is the subject of the film.

The decision to pull the film comes after Gregg Rocky Brooks, a former location manager, sued Depp, alleging that the actor punched him in the ribs and verbally assaulted him during a drunken tirade.

Sullivan was the inspiration for the movie's second lead, a journalist and writer played by Forest Whitaker, who approaches Poole and draws out his theory connecting the two murders with an infamous record label owner and members of the LAPD.

Representatives for Furman, Depp, and Good Film Productions did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Brooks alleged that in April 2017, Depp "screamed and berated" him until he was removed from the scene. Brooks also alleges that he was sacked when he wouldn't agree not to sue, according to Associated Press reports. This fueled recent rumors of physical assault that the actor was previously battling with regards to his ex-wife, Amber Heard, who divorced him after just 15 months of marriage.
