  • ‘Supergirl’ Movie in the Works

Warner Bros. and DC are developing a Supergirl movie penned by 22 Jump Street writer Oren Uziel, Deadline reports. He's also working the script for a Mortal Kombat reboot film. He's also writing the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. You can see Supergirl on television as played by Melissa Benoist on the CW, so her version of the character will be hard to not think about while watching this movie-assuming it actually releases one day. Apparently, the intention here is to inject a little life - and maybe levity - to the next movie venture of Cavill's Superman after a major behind-the-scenes overhaul of personnel in the aftermath of the lackluster performance of last fall's Justice League; a monumental financial failure that arrived after the lucrative and culturally groundbreaking success of the Gal Gadot-starring Wonder Woman just a few months earlier.

Gal Gadot, who played Wonder Woman in the 2017 film of the same name was praised for her performance and will return in the upcoming sequel Wonder Woman 1984.

Under his guidance, the studio is fast-tracking director Todd Phillips' The Joker, a relatively low-budget origin movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, as well as director Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey, in which Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, and team with a group of DC heroines. In fact, the Man of Steel official prequel comic book was all about Kara Zor-El and how she came to crash land on Earth in the same ship that would later become Superman's DCEU Fortress of Solitude. It looks like Supergirl is getting her own Warner Bros. movie. Warner and DC are adding more to their plate with a Supergirl film, totally reinforcing the DC Films image of trying to bite off more than they can chew.
