  • Demi Lovato shares first statement following drug overdose

"I wish I could put into words how grateful I am for this man right here", she wrote.

A person close to Lovato says she was released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles over the weekend. "I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery", she continued.

Friends of the star have told People they think the only way Demi can get better is to "completely quit show business", claiming: 'She needs to get out of this whole system that she has been in since she was 13'.

She has openly spoken about her struggles with addiction in the past and candidly revealed that she first tried cocaine, aged just 17, in a YouTube documentary titled Simply Complicated - released a year ago.

She also thanked her family, team and the staff at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Hollywood, who she said had been at her side since she was admitted on July 24. "It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet", she said. Later in the song, she apologizes to letting down her fans: "I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again / I wanna be a role model, but I'm only human". Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this hard time'.

Demi Lovato has left the hospital following her harrowing drug overdose and gone straight to rehab.

In late June, Lovato released a new single, "Sober", in which she admitted to breaking the six years of sobriety she marked on March 15.

"Now she is saying she is very scared of how quickly her life spiralled out of control and she is willing to do whatever it takes to get her life in order", the source adds. "I went on a bender of like, two months", Lovato admitted in the 2017 documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated.
