  • Homeland Security Secretary Nielsen doesn't believe Russian election interference favored Trump

A day after his meeting with Putin, Trump "clarified" his statements at a press conference saying he had full faith in the conclusion of United States intelligence agencies that Russian Federation interfered with the 2016 USA election.

News of a second Trump-Putin summit came soon after the Senate voted unanimously to rebuke Putin's attempt to convince Trump to hand over current and former American officials for questioning - an offer Trump had previously called "incredible".

However, he suggested the two did not agree on everything. They spoke one-on-one for more than two hours and then held expanded negotiations.

Trump said both he and Putin had spoken to Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "and would like to do certain things with respect to Syria having to do with the safety of Israel". The artist behind the cover, Nancy Burson, said she hopes it causes readers to reflect on the similarities between the two leaders.

Trump listed on Twitter the topics he and Putin talked about, but has not given details.

News of Mr Trump's invite caught many in Washington by surprise.

As Americans groped for information about the meeting, Moscow offered snippets of its version on Friday.

Coats, whose office briefs Trump nearly daily on the most classified information on security threats to the United States, made clear that he did not agree with the president's decision to meet with Putin one-on-one, with only translators by their sides.

Antonov said Putin had made concrete proposals to Trump about resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Interfax said, though he did not spell out what these were. He did not spell out what they were.

On Thursday, the Senate overwhelmingly voted in favor of a resolution to oppose allowing the Russian government to question US officials, something Putin suggested and the White House said it was considering.

Trump clarified his remarks at the White House on Tuesday, saying that he misspoke and accepts the intelligence community's conclusions. He later added that the Russian apparatus is still attempting to undermine the democratic process in the US.

"I haven't seen any evidence" that Russian meddling was meant to help Trump, Nielsen said during an interview with NBC News' Peter Alexander at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado.

"Then we would expect that the Americans would reciprocate and they would question officials, including the officers of law enforcement and intelligence services of the United States. who have something to do with illegal actions on the territory of Russian Federation, and we have to request the presence of our law enforcement". Now that he's the country's top intelligence official, Coats said he prefers to stay out of the headlines.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders tweeted that Trump asked National Security Adviser John Bolton "to invite President Putin to Washington in the fall and those discussions are already underway". "Hopefully President Putin will have the 12 identified Russians come to the United States to prove their innocence or guilt".

He said issues such as limiting their nuclear arsenals or ending the Syrian war were being affected by USA internal critics of Mr Trump.
