  • McDonald’s pulls salad from thousands of locations after parasite sickens people

McDonald's says it's working to remove these salads from restaurants and re-supplying restaurants with salads from different suppliers. The foodborne illness has been reported in counties across IL with people becoming ill starting in mid-May.

People often recover without medical intervention, according to the CDC, but antibiotics are also used to treat the condition.

Iowa health officials are asking the same of anyone who has developed symptoms after consuming one of these salads since the middle of June.

Illinois' health department said Thursday that it confirmed about 90 cases of cyclosporiasis since mid-May.

The Illinois and Iowa Departments of Public Health say they have seen an increase in cyclosporiasis, a parasitic intestinal infection that was also recently linked to Del Monte Vegetables.

McDonald's, the world's largest restaurant chain, said in a statement that it had been in contact with public health authorities in both states. It's most commonly found in developing countries, but several outbreaks linked to imported produce have reached the U.S.in recent years. Iowa has recorded 15 cases since late June. If not treated, the illness may last for a few days to a month or longer.

North Korea didn’t show up at meeting with U.S.
Trump agreed to provide "security guarantees" to North Korea and both countries agreed to renew relations. A senior government official said, however, without progress in the U.S.

"We're working with the CDC, the FDA and Iowa to investigate multiple potential sources", IL health department spokeswoman Melaney Arnold said in an email.

McDonald's has temporarily stopped selling salads in 14 states after an outbreak of a parasite that causes intestinal illness.

The FDA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, protects the public health by assuring the safety, effectiveness, and security of human and veterinary drugs, vaccines, and other biological products for human use, and medical devices.

The parasite cyclospora is also involved in the recall of Del Monte Fresh vegetable trays, blamed for sickening more than 200 people in Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota and MI.

The CDC said as of Friday, it confirmed 227 cases of cyclosporiasis in people in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and MI who consumed now-recalled Del Monte vegetable trays.
