Ontario woman accidentally steals vehicle she mistook for her rental

The saga began in late June when a woman rented a black Nissan Sentra from Enterprise Rent-A-Car company in Cornwall, Ont., about an hour west of Montreal.

He said the woman - who won't face any charges - was a "bit embarrassed" but shrugged it off, and the man whose vehicle was stolen "had a good chuckle".

It turns out the vehicle she thought was her rental was actually a 2015 black Infiniti QX50, a hatchback - which was obviously not the sedan she had originally rented.

"She drove around and did her daily business in this stolen vehicle for two weeks", MacKay said.

The woman drove the vehicle for two weeks before trying to return it back to Enterprise. The man whose auto was stolen found the entire thing hilarious, and gave a healthy "chuckle" when his vehicle was returned to him. Shopping, she got into a shiny black auto and drove away, not knowing that it's someone else's vehicle.

Neither of the cars required keys to start the engine instead using key fobs, which the owner left in the vehicle.

When you're cooking up a storm and you still have to put the pot of rice on the stove, it can be a bit of an effort. It can lead to sepsis and meningitis (infection and inflammation of membranes surrounding the brain).

But little did she know she was actually seated behind the wheel of someone else's vehicle. "Once inside, the woman spoke to the manager and commented about how unkempt the inside of the vehicle was and the fact that there was a set of golf clubs in it as well", police said on Facebook.

All was revealed when she finally returned the black Infiniti auto she had been driving, to a rental vehicle company, whereupon she was told it was the wrong vehicle and not the Nissan Sentra she had originally rented. Yes, the cops were involved, but luckily, they chose not to arrest or press charges against the woman.

In the end, both the auto rental company and the Infiniti owner retrieved their vehicles and there was a happy ending to the story.

None of this tipped her off, until the manager drove with her over to the Walmart parking lot where the Nissan she had rented was still parked. "You never know who might take it", police noted, according to MSN report.

It turns out the auto that she thought was her rental vehicle was actually a 2015 black Infiniti QX50, a hatchback - not the sedan she had originally rented. I was embarrassed", while another added: "So both of them left their auto unlocked and keys in it?

While they described it as a "happy ending to a complicated vehicle rental", police cast the story as a broader warning over electronic key fobs.
