Nets reportedly send Lin to Hawks, acquire two from Nuggets

The team was hoping to clear the logjam at the guard position, which already has D'Angelo Russell, Spencer Dinwiddie, Allen Crabbe, and Caris LeVert to split playing time.

The Atlanta Hawks have agreed to a trade with the Brooklyn Nets that will send guard Jeremy Lin to Atlanta, per a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

As most expected, Lin wasn't able to top the Linsanity fad from his time with the New York Knicks, having a rather disappointing two-year stint with the Nets.

Wojnarowski noted that league sources indicated the Lin trade will likely speed up the process of the Hawks trading guard Dennis Schroder this summer. As part of the deal, the two teams will also exchange future second-round picks.

Lin became an global sensation during the 2011-2012 season. The NBA's first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent has also played for Golden State, Houston, the Lakers and Charlotte. Faried is owed $13.76 million this season, and Arthur is set to earn $7.46 million.

Whitehead also saw little action throughout the 2017-18 season as he only played 11.3 minutes per game in 16 outings with the Nets. Both are entering the final years of their contract. Lin averaged 14.5 points, 5.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 36 games for the Nets during the 2016-17 season while dealing with a lingering hamstring injury.

The Nets had acquired Whitehead in a draft night trade with Utah in 2016.
