  • FDA: Retailers cannot legally sell Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal following recall

The warning came less than a month after the company launched an investigation with the third-party manufacturer who produces the cereal after being contacted by the Food & Drug Administration and CDC regarding reported illnesses.

The CDC warned customers, saying "Do not eat this cereal".

The FDA said on Thursday it would follow up with retailers to prevent the sale of the product. "Retailers can not legally offer the cereal for sale and consumers should not purchase Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal", the FDA reported. "The public is urged to report any product being offered for sale".

"The FDA has become aware that recalled Kellogg's Honey Smacks cereal are still being offered for sale", the agency said in a statement.

Jack Wilshere has spoken of his delight after leaving Arsenal to sign for West Ham United this summer. He joins the Hammers for their first season under new boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The cereal is the likely source of the salmonella outbreak, the CDC said. The agency claimed two exemptions: "disclosure could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings" and possible disclosure of "trade secret and confidential commercial information". In these patients, the Salmonellainfection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. They usually disappear after four to seven days.

"Laboratory testing identified the outbreak strain of Salmonella in unopened and opened boxes of Honey Smacks cereal collected from retail locations and from ill people's homes", the new report stated.

In this outbreak, NY has the most cases (11), followed by Pennsylvania (eight), MA (seven), and California (six).

Meanwhile, the number of sick people continues to increase.
