The last remaining Blockbuster store is located in Bend, Oregon.
Daymude said the loss of such a loyal customer base will be a hard element in addition to the closing.
By April 2017, 10 stores existed across the entire US. "It's hard to say goodbye". "We have thought of you as family for the past 28 years".
"It just breaks your heart, you know?"
Kevin Daymude, general manager of the Anchorage store, said the closing of both stores has not only to do with the ending of both leases but also the economy.

The two closures will affect The Last Frontier. The one in Texas closed shop previous year. And since then, its store count has continued to slowly dwindle. The Wasilla, North Pole and Soldotna stores closed this year, as did another Anchorage location near the intersection of Old Seward Highway and Huffman Road.
Two months ago the show sent a jockstrap worn by Russell Crowe in the 2005 movie "Cinderella Man" and other items to an Anchorage store, which displayed it in an effort to ramp up business. Alaskans, Oliver reported, still depend on Blockbuster since they have limited access to the kind of internet that can support the rest of the nation's streaming habits.
It can be hard for young people who've come of age in the era of streaming to understand the role Blockbuster Video played in the lives of budding cinephiles.
At the peak of its popularity in 2004, Blockbuster boasted around 84,300 employees around the world. After all, some argue, why go to all the trouble if you can just rent a movie from your couch? Blockbuster declared bankruptcy in 2010 and was bought a year later by Dish Network. And there's just not enough incentive to keep it going.
The final Blockbuster video stores in Anchorage and Fairbanks are closing their rental business on Monday, July 16, but will reopen on Tuesday through the end of August to sell-off their inventory. According to The Oregonian, the stores' manager Kevin Daymude will not offer any rentals beyond Sunday night.
