The run up to the elections 2018 is getting bloodier day by day, as only a few days after the martyrdom of 22 people, including ANP's electoral candidate Haroon Bilour, in Peshawar, two deadly bombings rattled rallies in Mastung and Bannu on Friday, killing at least 134 people and injuring scores of others.

Caretaker Home Minister Agha Umar Bungalzai told The Associated Press another 120 people were injured in the bombing.

A senior provincial government official also confirmed the figure, adding that 150 others were injured in the attack.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack through its newswire Aamaq.

Pakistan's caretaker government launched a crackdown on political gatherings on Friday as Sharif, who was ousted by the Supreme Court previous year and convicted in absentia of corruption a week ago, flew back to rally his party ahead of the general elections.

Police had earlier said more than 1,000 people were in attendance at the rally.

Militants targeted a gathering of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Siraj Raisani in Mastung area in the troubled Balochistan province.

"Mir Siraj Raisani succumbed to wounds while he was being shifted to Quetta", caretaker provincial Home Minister Agha Umar said.

Raisani is the brother of former chief minister of Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani.

At least thirty six people were killed or wounded in an explosion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Friday, the security officials said.

Police and witnesses said Durrani was traveling in a convoy when a remote-controlled bomb planted in a parked motorcycle exploded near his vehicle. That attack killed four people and injured almost 40 others but Durrani escaped unhurt. The politician is a central leader of a main religious party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F). He later visited the injured in a hospital in Bannu and said that his vehicle was damaged in the attack.

On July 7, seven people were injured when a convoy of a Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal came under attack in Bannu.

Authorities said the suicide bomber detonated in the middle of a compound where the political meeting was taking place.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan had reportedly claimed responsibility behind the attack.

Bilour was part of the predominantly secular, ethnic Pashtun nationalist Awami National Party, which has long competed with Islamist parties for votes in Pakistan's volatile Pashtun lands, along the border with Afghanistan.

Analysts warn however that Pakistan has yet to tackle the root causes of militancy.
