"I know they have the ambition to go further the next season", Mahrez added. "Now we have to work and see what can happen". City are a big club and have everything to try to win it. I want to be part of this.

"Everyone in Algeria has been waiting for Mahrez to move to a really big club to see the next stage of his development", said Ali.

The Algeria global faces competition for his place, with Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling already operating on the wing but Mahrez says every club has "great" players and competition is "part of football".

Speaking at his formal unveiling at the City Football Academy, Mahrez said: "It's a club who wants to win this type of trophy".

"Everyone can improve and the squad can improve, it's ideal".

"Players at top clubs always have to face competition for places, it is normal for big clubs to have a lot of great players and City are a big club with a big manager", he explained.

"In France, too, I think people have been waiting to see how he does at a big club and I think they will see a different player this year". I thought what City did previous year was fantastic, it was unbelievable to break all those Premier League records, but I am confident about myself.

"I'm very happy to be here, to have signed for this club", said Mahrez. "This does not affect me", said Mahrez, who only cost Leicester £400,000 when they signed him in 2014.

Maguire has been a stand out star at the World Cup after a fine season playing for the Foxes, and as arguably the only starting player from the England team who is likely to move this summer, a hefty price tag of £50-60m has been mentioned in the press.
