Croatia’s World Cup coach always carries his rosary with him

England had only ever played there once (a 2-1 defeat to Russian Federation back in 2007), and it seems like the curse / losing streak is destined to continue for the time being.

"We blew our chances", 17-year-old Josh Ogunde said after watching the 2-1 semifinal defeat with friends near Trafalgar Square in central London as the disappointed crowds streamed home.

I have worked on every major tournament as a BBC pundit since the 2006 World Cup and this one has been my favourite by a long way.

With Croatia just one game away from that reality we caught up with the mad Croatian fan from Brazil's capital Brasilia.

"We've definitely written ourselves into history, given the conditions and infrastructure back home, we are a miracle", he added. Asked how far he thought the still young England team could progress in the next World Cup, he said: "This far, if not the final". We can at least defend two crosses.

"We have been compact, united and have fought for everything and we are still in the tournament".

Harry Kane, who has six goals, could end the tournament with the Golden Boot - he could improve his tally in the third place play-off tomorrow - but at this stage he will take little consolation from the coveted honour. It is what it is, but we'll try and play that game with as much pride as a team as try and finish on a high.

The decision to start a family - and the timing of it - should be allowed to remain private, even for royals . But although the ceremony might have been a snooze for a tiny prince , the fashion from the day wasn't.

The passionate fan says that Croatia has made him the happiest man in the world this World Cup. It is an opportunity lost.

Ultimately we were not good enough to win it, but we can accept that - as a team, they still far exceeded all of our expectations, and I would congratulate them for that. "The only wish I have is to lift the cup for Croatia".

The semi-final between England and Croatia took place at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, the giant 80,000-capacity venue which will also host Sunday's grand final.

The Russia 2018 World Cup has produced a number of great stars and shown a glimpse of what's to come from future talents in the lovely game.

"People in Brazil do not understand I do not feel passion for the Brazilian team that already has won 5 world titles, Croatia filled everything I could feel for the Brazilian team".

"I am immensely proud by the way the players have played and we can see by the reaction of the supporters, they felt the same".
