One of Switzerland's star performances in Russian Federation, his last-minute victor against Serbia sent the side through to the World Cup's round of 16 before their campaign drew to a close with a defeat to Sweden.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds have opened discussions with the Stoke player, who is believed to have a release clause around £13.5 million.

Stoke, who were relegated last season, are in pole position to sign Wilson, also a winger, but there is also strong interest in the 21-year-old, who signed a five-year contract this week, from Swansea City and Aston Villa.

Froome was left 55 seconds behind in the overall standings with another week of nervy rolling stages before hitting the Alps. It will be van Avermaet's second stint in yellow after three days in the maillot jaune during the 2016 Tour de France.

The Reds expect that players participate in 75 percent of games if they go on loan.

Shaqiri joined Stoke from Bayern Munich in 2015 and has two years remaining on his deal but the Championship side are resigned to him moving this summer and they want the business wrapped up quickly. He admitted that he would like to leave following last season's relegation. Liverpool have been trying to reignite a deal despite a hands-off warning issued before the World Cup.
