After seeing off big servers Kyle Edmund and Karen Khachanov, he faced Nishikori, who had recovered from his own serious injury to hit peak form in reaching his first Wimbledon quarter-final.

Djokovic overcame a series of rows with the chair umpire to record a 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 victory over Japan's former US Open finalist.

Having reached the semis of 22 of the 24 majors between 2011 and 2016, Djokovic is now closing in on a first final appearance at a Slam since losing to Stan Wawrinka at the U.S. Open two years ago.

'I thought it was unnecessary to get the warning, ' he told the BBC after the 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-2 win.

"It gives me confidence that I was able to play good tennis on grass", Nishikori said.

"So I think it's not fair but it is the way it is, in the mix of emotions and a tough match it happens". Indignation that he has not made it past the quarter-finals in any of the past six.

I would be happy to see them lifting the trophy.' In March, he had posted a photo with Croatian football stars Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic, writing on Instagram: 'Happy to meet nice guys and great players from Croatian National team.' Vladimir Djukanovic, a member of President Aleksander Vucic's Serbian Progressive Party, through a video, said that only an idiot could support Croatia.

Wimbledon 2018 -- Angelique Kerber advances to final
Kerber did not dictate much, content to let 2017 French Open champion Ostapenko determine the outcome of almost every point. Williams took the wheel early when she broke Gorges' serve in the fifth game of the first set.

"I am peaking at the right moment".

Japan´s Kei Nishikori returns against Serbia´s Novak Djokovic during their men´s singles quarter-finals match on the ninth day of the 2018 Wimbledon Championships.

After racing through the first set, Djokovic was handed his first code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct after bouncing his racquet into the grass in frustration at squandering three break points in the third game of the second set. And I asked everybody behind me out loud, "What did you hear me say?'".

"Double standards, my friend".

Things got worse between the two later when Djokovic felt Ramos failed to sanction Nishikori for a similar act in the fourth set.

But the 12-times major victor regained his cool sufficiently enough to safely take his place in the semi-finals for the first time since snaring his third title at The All England Club in 2015.

Djokovic's mood was not improved by Ramos choosing not to punish Nishikori for imitating his earlier offence of bashing a racquet into the ground.
