Rodina called Williams her idol and one look at Williams' performance it was clear to see why.

Bertens was unable to follow her shock wins against five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams and Czech seventh seed Karolina Pliskova earlier in the tournament.

Two-time grand slam victor Angelique Kerber faces 2017 French Open victor Jelena Ostapenko in the other semifinal after the pair downed Daria Kasatkina 6-3 7-5 and Dominika Cibulkova 7-5 6-4, respectively.

Goerges, seeded 13th, faces seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams on Thursday for a place in Saturday's final. Even when I was down the first set, I thought, 'Well, she's playing great. "But it was tougher than the scoreline to be honest".

"It's definitely family before tennis for me", she said to Harper's Bazaar UK.

This is Williams' 18th consecutive win at the Championships - she missed last year's tournament as she prepared to have her first child.

It may be that today, for the first time, Serena Williams does not manage to intimidate her opponent before a ball is struck. Williams is 3-0 against Giorgi in the singles format.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh "sticks to the law", former clerk says
This issue may not get as much buzz as abortion or health care, but it's probably the one that's directly relevant to Trump. Another Democrat representing a conservative state, Doug Jones (Ala.), was not in the Senate to vote on Gorsuch.

"I didn't expect it, honestly", said Goerges, who lost in the first round at the All England Club each of the past five years.

An excellent return put her in position to gain two break points, but Giorgi let the opportunity slip by hitting a backhand long, and she paid the price as Williams held and then broke for the first time in the match, finding the angle with a rasping forehand. But this is only my fourth tournament back (so) I don't feel pressure, I don't feel like I have to win this.

She hit one at 122 miles per hour against Giorgi, delivered six of her seven aces in the final set, and won 44 of the last 54 points she served.

Next up for Williams as she tries to earn her eighth title at the All England Club and 24th Grand Slam trophy overall will be a match Thursday against No. 13 seed Julia Goerges of Germany, a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victor against No. 20 Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands. The two met last month in the second round at the French Open, with Williams winning in straight sets.

Giorgi was game from the opening exchanges, but the opening set swerved in her favour when Williams failed to convert four break-point chances.

Del Potro trails world number one Nadal 10-5 in career meetings.
