Pressure? What pressure? Composure key to Serena's latest Wimbledon win

  • Serena Williams of the United States plays a forehand against Evgeniya Rodina of Russia during their Ladies' Singles fourth round match on day seven of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club

So it's really cool.

She went a couple of weeks without practicing serves, and the rest did wonders.

Ostapenko, the 12th seed, overpowered Slovak Dominika Cibulkova 7-5 6-4 to reach Wimbledon's final four for the first time, and without dropping a set. The German had suffered five successive first-round defeats at Wimbledon before this year and had clocked up 42 grand slam appearances without progressing beyond the fourth round.

Her loss marks the first time in the Open era that any major has featured a quarterfinal round without a top-10 seed on either the men's or women's side, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Williams hasn't lost a set against Goerges in three previous matches, including a victory last month at the French Open (6-3, 6-4) in the round of 32.

Williams will face Germany's Julia Goerges, the 13th seed, who reached her first grand slam semi-final with victory over Kiki Bertens.

Williams, a 23-time major victor, is hoping to join a select group of women who have won Grand Slams after becoming mothers.

Del Potro will hope his second trip to the Wimbledon quarter-finals mimics his first run into the last eight.

Bertens built a 4-1 lead in the second set with Pliskova appearing to lack energy at times - occasionally making little attempt to chase balls down.

Team spirit can carry Belgium to World Cup final, says Martinez
Both Deschamps and Henry were both Les Bleus players when the French side won its first and only World Cup title in 1998. Petersburg, after both teams booked their spots among the most talented in the 2018 staging of the soccer World Cup.

After seven minutes, the decision was finally changed and the point replayed.

Giorgi went into the match having served the most double faults in the tournament and duly committed one in the first game, but recovered her composure to save it with a scintillating cross-court forehand.

Giorgi served to stay in the match in confident fashion with a hold to love, but Williams then did the same as Giorgi's gallant effort came to an end with a exhausted forehand into the net. For me, I can't even think that far.

Kerber takes on Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the other semifinal.

Serena Williams is prepping for her return to Wimbledon and she will have an extra special fan in attendance to cheer her on.

The issue: a pectoral injury that, at the time, left some doubts that she could play at Wimbledon.

Goerges had gone out in the first round at Wimbledon for the past five years.

"It's definitely family before tennis for me", she said to Harper's Bazaar UK.

In June, she was a match away from the French Open quarterfinals before withdrawing from the tournament an hour before her anticipated match against Maria Sharapova.
