  • Bedroom Police: Iranian Teen Detained over Instagram Dance Videos

Several women have posted videos of themselves dancing, with the hashtag #Dancing_isn't_a_crime.

Officials arrested the 17- or 18-year-old Hojabri after she shared videos of herself dancing to Western and Iranian music at home with her tens of thousands of followers.

Since 2017, FATA has arrested many women charged with publishing un-Islamic photos and videos on social media.

The latter showed a young woman, her face blurred, crying and shaking. "The person playing the instrument cut my performance short and left the scene because of the fear that his instruments would be confiscated if police saw a woman dancing".

Dozens reacted to Hojabri's detention by uploading their own dance videos.

Maedeh Hojabri's Instagram account has since been shut down, and she was made to appear on state television after her arrest, where she expressed remorse.

Cave rescue hailed as Thailand's 'mission impossible'
The youth soccer team rescued from a cave in Thailand will be unable to accept FIFA's invitation to attend the World Cup final. British divers found them grouped together in complete darkness on a muddy bank several kilometres inside the cave on Monday.

"It wasn't for attracting attention", one of the arrested women said through tears in a broadcast on Friday, according to The Guardian. One of them is Elnaz Qasemi, who had more than 600,000 Instagram followers. I did not have any intention to encourage others doing the same...

A local news website reported that Hojabri and three other people were detained on similar charges and released on bail in recent weeks.

Hojabri recorded and posted around 300 videos on Instagram of herself dancing in what Iran would deem an "immoral" manner. Instagram, like many other social networks (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Telegram), undergo periodic interlocks in the country. "I only do gymnastics".

Iranian authorities have previously cracked down on dancing.

"Free them up", wrote another man dancing at work in tall plastic boots, "Let people live with this little bit of happiness".

As the BBC notes, six Iranian girls were given sentences of a year in prison and 91 lashes after they were convicted in 2014 of posting videos of themselves dancing to the Pharrell Williams song "Happy".
