What's left of Beryl, a tropical wave moving northwestward across the southeastern Bahamas, was producing gusty winds and locally heavy rain from Hispaniola and southeastern Cuba northeastward across the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos into the adjacent Atlantic waters, the Hurricane Center said in its 7 p.m. update.

There is a 50 percent chance that what's left of Beryl could turn back into a tropical storm in the next five days, the National Hurricane Center said its Tuesday afternoon advisory.

"These swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions", it said.

Although Hurricane Chris is headed towards Canada, it will still create severe weather for those on the U.S. East Coast.

Torrential Rains Claim Nearly 100 Lives In Japan
In the Mabi district of Kurashiki, the water left behind a fine yellow silt that has transformed the area into moonscape. More than 30 inches of rain over the past week has led to one of Japan's worst flooding disasters on record.

Storm Chris is set to hit the United Kingdom with gales, cooler temperatures and damper weather, threatening to end Britain's heatwave.

The National Hurricane Center's advisory stated Hurricane Chris was located about 200 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and was moving in a northeastern direction at 10 mph. "Little development is expected during the next day or so due to land interaction and unfavorable upper-level winds".

Chris was forecasted to begin weakening by Thursday, and become a strong post-tropical cyclone by Thursday night or early Friday.

She said a "blip" in the current hot weather, which is not down to Chris, is seeing temperatures in the south east drop to around 23-25C (73-77F) and further north to 21-22C (69-71F) in Birmingham or 17-18C (62-64F) in Newcastle but temperatures "will increase a few degrees to the weekend".
