  • Toto Wolff knows how to get the best out of Lewis Hamilton

As frustrating as it was to see Hamilton taken out by Kimi Raikkonen just two weeks after Vettel hit Valtteri Bottas on the opening lap in France, the comments made by Wolff were inadvisable at best.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel extended his lead at the top of the Formula One standings with a thrilling victory at Sunday's British Grand Prix.

Bottas started third on the grid, but was nearly immediately promoted to second thanks to a poor start by team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

It was Ferrari's first win in Britain since 2011.

Bottas was fourth with Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo fifth and Nico Hulkenberg sixth for Renault. Pierre Gasly was 10th for Toro Rosso.

'The Safety Car spiced it up, it was a nice battle with Valtteri! "Not an easy day, but I got something out of it".

While the stewards were deliberating on the crash, for which Raikkonen was handed a 10-second time penalty, Hamilton was scything through the field, and he required only 11 laps to rejoin the front-running cars in sixth place in time for the first pit stop window.

"It was my mistake", he said. "Without the mistakes and the penalty it would have been better, but I tried".

Bottas again led from the second restart however his older, harder tyres made it difficult to hold back Vettel.

North Korea Rejects Washington's 'Gangster-Like' Demands
"I have confidence that Kim Jong Un will honor the contract we signed &, even more importantly, our handshake", Trump wrote. She said the dinner lasted an hour and 45 minutes and at times the two were "cracking jokes" and "exchanging pleasantries".

Hamilton wrote on Instagram: "Kimi said sorry and I accept it and we move on". "There was 15 or 16 laps until the end with mediums that would last".

Bottas would assume the lead from Vettel, with Hamilton now third.

Then the race took another unexpected twist when Swede Marcus Ericsson crashed out at 200mph.

Hartley had to start in the pit lane on Sunday (Monday NZ time) after a spectacular crash during practice when the front suspension of his auto was severely damaged.

Vettel crossed the line an ecstatic man, recording Ferrari's first win at the Mercedes-dominated circuit since 2011 and Vettel's first victory in England since 2009. Both Mercedes drivers will start Sunday's Grand Prix on the Soft tyre.

As at Spielberg, Hamilton was concerned by the decision. "I'm not comfortable at all", he said. "You are the fastest by miles, so don't give up".

After the Sauber wreckage was cleared, the race resumed only for Romain Grosjean to collide with Carlos Sainz at the high-speed Copse corner. Bottas then let Hamilton past to challenge the German. Hamilton stayed close in third, hoping for a chance.

Stewards imposed a five-second penalty after ruling that the Toro Rosso driver had caused a collision with Perez and gained a place as a outcome of his actions.

He was whizzing round the circuit while Harry Maguire had nodded England's football team in front in Russian Federation, and Hamilton has promised to jet out to Moscow if Gareth Southgate's side reach the World Cup final next Sunday.
