Suzuki reveals European specs of new Jimny

08 July, 2018, 15:58 | Author: Tara Roberts
  • New Suzuki Jimny launched in Japan to arrive in other markets soon

But what the Jimny does do is tackle the rough stuff in a way nothing else can - certainly nothing else remotely close to its price - and the new Jimny, due to arrive in the United Kingdom in 2019, promises more of that, but with an added dose of modernity.

It seems likely the new Jimny will cost more than the £13k starting point of the current Jimny. For the design language, Suzuki has gone back to the boxy look from the first and second generation Jimny, instead of the curvier third generation iteration.

The design principles are functional too, as this will still be a vehicle built specifically for tough terrain when it arrives.

The Jimny's interior, meanwhile, gains modern features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth. Both the Jimny and the Jimny Sierra are three-door SUVs with the former being shorter by 155mm (3,395mm), narrower by 170mm (1,475mm) and lower to the ground by 5mm (ground clearance of 205mm). It stands a little wider at 1,645mm across though, and 20mm taller too at 1,725mm. However, the overall design remains chunky, with function favoured over form, to enable users to operate controls and buttons even while wearing gloves.

Grayson Allen, Trae Young got tangled up in a summer league game
Atlanta will have also been encouraged by John Collins, who had a game-high 30 points and eight rebounds in 30 minutes. After coming off a pindown, Young popped out to the top of the 3-point arc and caught a pass and was met by Allen.

Inside, the auto comes with 377 litres of boot space - 53 litres more than in the last model - and all the materials used make it easy to maintain if it gets dirty.

Suzuki's only confirmed one engine for the European market and surprisingly, it's not one of the firm's excellent BoosterJet turbocharged units. The Jimny Sierra uses a version of the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga's new K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Suzuki has also squashed at least one of the rumours that have been buzzing around the cybergarage by specifying only one engine choice for the global market outside Japan - a 1462cc, naturally-aspirated DOHC 16-valve long-stroke petrol four rated for 75kW at 6000 revs and 130Nm at 4000rpm - an nearly 20 percent improvement on the 1.3-litre current model's 63kW and 110Nm. However, it's also lighter and neater packaging means it's smaller too. It is therefore powered by a turbocharged 0.7-litre (658cc), 3-cylinder, petrol engine developing 64PS of power and 96Nm of torque paired to either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT.

Economy figures are pegged at 41.5mpg and 37.6mpg for the manual and automatic respectively, with Carbon dioxide figures of 154g/km and 170g/km.
