Philadelphia 76ers: 3 reasons Jimmy Butler should be considered an option

  • Boston Celtics Kyrie Irving drives past Minnesota Timberwolves Jimmy Butler during the second quarter of an NBA basketball in Boston Friday Jan. 5 2018

Jimmy Butler wants to join forces with another superstar in the Eastern Conference. They each have a player option in their contracts that if declined makes them a UFA in the summer of 2019.

"As for Butler, a league source said that he also has no intentions of signing an extension with Minnesota, all but fed up with the nonchalant attitude of his younger teammates, specifically Karl-Anthony Towns", Cowley reports.

Butler performed well in his first season with the Timberwolves, as he averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

The same could potentially be said of Irving, who has already publicly dismissed the idea of signing an extension in Boston and is heading into the final year of his contract.

That's according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, who wrote Tuesday that Butler was "all but fed up" with his teammates in Minnesota, in particular the team's other all-star player, Karl-Anthony Towns.

Brazil aim to beat Belgium over 90 minutes in quarters, says Tite
Only a three-goal comeback in the last 15 minutes saw Roberto Martinez's side book their ticket for the last eight. Fernandinho will be replacing him in the starting Xi and that shows the amount of talent they have in the squad.

Leonard is on the trade market.

Butler has played playoff basketball in six of his seven NBA seasons, but he has never advanced past the second round. The Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly interested in acquiring the former NBA Finals MVP, though neither one now seems willing to meet San Antonio's asking price.

Butler is not the first player in Minnesota that had unsettled feelings with the organization.

Purely having some fun here, I put together some potential deals involving the Bulls and Wolves now that it appears the brief stint in Minnesota could be coming to an end for Butler. They had the luxury of signing Butler but couldn't convince him to stay there. Putting Butler on the Lakers probably wouldn't be enough to dethrone the Golden State Warriors, but it might make Los Angeles the West's second-best team next year. It looks like will be seeing the same Timberwolves team, but hopefully more healthy.
