Irish Water has announced a hosepipe ban for the whole country.

In Dublin began a one-month ban on watering using a garden hose and the local authorities say, likely it will be extended to other areas.

The ban prohibits the use of water drawn through a hosepipe or similar for the goal of watering a garden, cleaning a private motor-vehicle using a domestic hosepipe, cleaning a private leisure boat using a hosepipe, filling or maintaining a domestic swimming or paddling pool (except when using hand held containers filled directly from a tap), filling or maintaining a domestic pond (excluding fish ponds) using a hosepipe, filling or maintaining an ornamental fountain (with the exception of such use for commercial purposes), use of water for filling or replenishing an artificial pond (excluding fish ponds), lake or similar application.

'Irish Water thanks the public for their conservation efforts to date and we continue to encourage and support the public in their efforts to reduce usage.

On Sunday evening, NI Water said demand is still 30 per cent higher than normal, and asked the public to continue to reduce their usage.

Defending hot dog eating champion sets new record
It turns out Chestnut didn't take down the 64 dogs as noted by the manual counter situated over his head during the competition. Nothing says the Fourth of July like barbecues, fireworks and Joey Chestnut winning the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest .

Yorkshire Water said daily water consumption was up by up to an extra 200 million litres, with contingency plans put in place to increase water production capacity. Due to soil moisture conditions, smaller groundwater sites in particular may take many months to recover. Water companies are granted the power to impose restrictions in times of "serious shortage", under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. We are grateful for all measures that have been taken in homes and businesses, ' concludes the statement.

We have also agreed that, where requested, Irish Water will make water supplies available for farmers who wish to use their own tankers to transport water from areas that are not under pressure.

Night time restrictions are in place from 12 midnight until 6am in Herbertstown, Knocklong, Oola, Bruff, Hospital and Pallasgreen.

The ban is usually introduced when it's particularly hot outside, as the demand for water is a lot higher than usual. "Over the coming years, with growing population and employment, failure to provide a further major supply to the eastern and midlands region would seriously damage the economy and the reputation of the region for secure water service".

With no rainfall expected this week, the firm is encouraging its five million customers to use water more wisely in order to help ensure that the huge demand can continue to be met.
