  • RCMP announce arrest in Humboldt bus crash

Sixteen people, including 10 players, died as a result of the crash.

The crash between the team's bus and a transport truck happened at the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 335, about 30 kilometres north of Tisdale, on April 6th.

The Broncos were on their way to a playoff game when the crash occurred, killing 16 people and injuring 13 others.

Spokespeople for the RCMP are not releasing any information as to what specifically caused the crash as the matter is now before the courts. Instead, Thomas and his family have been "grieving for our son every day".

"They're going to be there for a while yet", he said.

Alberta's transportation minister says the province is still working on an overhaul of Alberta's trucking licensing regulations in the wake of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

Investigators are seeking clues after the two were exposed to the Soviet military-grade substance "Novichok". Another unknown at this point is where exactly the two came into contact with Novichok.

The team released a statement Friday thanking the RCMP, saying: "the organization has faith in the justice system and we will be watching closely as this court process plays out".

The team says it is focused on supporting those who were impacted by the tragedy. His mother Michelle Straschnitzki said the charges are "another step" in moving forward.

The number and types of charges, said Cameron, were "appropriate".

Humboldt's mayor said emotions remain raw in the community. Additional resources of more than 100 other officers also assisted in the investigation. The charges announced Friday have brought the overwhelming sadness back to the forefront. "I guess we'll just wait and see in the courts".

It was reported by CBC News that the bus carrying the hockey team had the right of way when it collided with the truck driven by Sidhu.

RCMP Supt. Derek Williams said their probe was exhaustive and included 60 core investigators combing through records, interviewing five dozen witnesses and using 3D technology to determine what happened.
