HEAT ADVISORY is up for much of the area to Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

Temperatures there have been in the mid-90s since Sunday, and the heat will continue through Thursday, to highs around 93, before dropping back to average, or 77 degrees, on Friday.

Storms Tuesday afternoon will help break the heat. Any storms that do form will move slowly, so they could drop heavy rain onto parched soil.

He said a cold front will begin to move into ME on Friday, with temperatures expected to drop into the 70s by Saturday. Scattered thunderstorms are also expected, although the evening looks dry - so there should be no interruption of scheduled fireworks shows.

Friday's overall forecast is similar - except that drier air will be moving in during the day which decreases the overall chance of showers and thunderstorms to 30 percent.
