Coast Guard crews in Clearwater assisted in the rescue of several people who were injured Saturday after an explosion on a tour boat near Exuma in the Bahamas.

Family friends are now trying to raise money to help the girl, Stefanie Schaffer and her mother, Stacey Shaffer who was also injured.

Her family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical expenses. She underwent a double leg amputation after suffering life-threatening injuries from the incident.

Stefanie's mother, Stacey Schaffer suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries.

Stefanie Schaffer, 22, is in critical condition after a deadly boat explosion in the Bahamas on June 30.

He said water levels in the cave had decreased and that nearly 60 foreign and Thai divers were involved in the rescue effort. Officials said the boys know the site well and have visited it many times, so they may have been able to find shelter.

"Hang in there Stef I'm on my way", George Schaffer, Jr. wrote on his Facebook page. The others victims were being treated at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau.

There were 12 passengers on the boat, including two from the Bahamas. "The Family wants everyone to know they are so thankful for the outpouring of love and support by so many of you". Stefanie also requires surgery on her spine for an L1 lumbar disk fracture.

At around 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, 10 Americans and two Bahamians were on the 40-foot chartered tour boat when its engine exploded near Barraterre island in the Exuma Cays. The cause of the explosion has not been determined at this time. "We are saddened and our hearts are hurting, but we will get through this together".

The company that ran the trip, 4C's Adventures, declined to comment on the explosion to DailyMail.com because they are under investigation.
