Prank caller gets Trump on phone by impersonating Dem senator

  • A comedian prank called Trump on air by pretending to be a senator. It actually worked

Melendez, host of "The Stuttering John Podcast" and a frequent guest on Howard Stern's radio show, impersonated Democratic Sen.

On Friday, a White House official told CNN accepting the call was a mistake.

The pair briefly discussed immigration, with Trump stating, "I want to be able to take care of the situation every bit as much as anybody else at the top level".

In the audio recording, the man who sounds just like the president congratulated the comic "on a job well done", and added that "we can do a real immigration bill".

"I'd like to do the larger solution, rather than the smaller solution", Trump said.

Yet, as the Washington Post aptly notes about the whole thing, it is "it is hard to independently verify whether Melendez actually reached the president".

In a different version of the events, Melendez told the New York Post two kids told him the Secret Service knocked on his door when he returned home.

Russian Federation beat Spain in World Cup's first penalty shootout to progress
They have lost eight of those games, including four at World Cups, the last to South Korea in 2002 - also on penalties. Artem Dzyuba then converted a penalty three minutes before the break to pull the tournament hosts level at half-time.

Apart from claiming that the Secret Service paid him a visit, John Melendez said that Stormy Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avvenati, has offered to represent him if necessary.

He goes on to advocate for stronger border security, telling Melendez it's "good for both of us". But when Melendez insisted that Trump had said he would speak to Menendez, the operator, somewhat reluctantly, said she would try to connect him.

Hours later, Melendez said, he connected with Trump.

As for Melendez, he tweeted his shock that not more people had picked up the prank call.

Trump is by no means the only world leader to be duped into a phone call.

Melendez and "Trump" then chat about immigration policy and the process of choosing a Supreme Court nominee before wrapping up their conversation a few minutes later. Sorry, love you all but I have to go to sleep. It is unclear if the person speaking on the phone is Trump for certain, but Melendez and many people on social media believe that it is. According to Politico, when Legislative Affairs got word of the call, they contacted Menendez's chief of staff and learned that the senator was not trying to contact the president. Trump said he is looking at several great candidates and would have a pick in 12 to 14 days. When asked at one point why he has a California telephone number that does not match one the White House has for Menendez's office, he says they are on vacation - even though the Senate was in session at the time.

The Daily Mail finally noticed today, followed quickly by BuzzFeed News, and soon enough the story had generated a chyron on CNN: "Who's Calling?"
