Notorious French Gangster Escapes Paris Prison By Helicopter

  • It is the second time Faid has pulled off a spectacular jailbreak- in 2013 he blasted his way out of a prison in northern France using dynamite before being recaptured six weeks later

Simultaneously, a helicopter landed in the prison courtyard, which was not covered by any nets.

Faid was sentenced to 25 years for his role as the suspected mastermind of an attempted armed robbery that led to the 2010 death of 26-year-old policewoman Aurelie Fouquet, who was killed in a shootout, according to the Associated Press.

Faid, who was once the most-wanted criminal of France, pulled off an earlier prison break in April 2013 when he took four prison guards hostage and used explosives hidden in tissue packets to blast his way through several gates.

Redoine Faid was in prison for armed robbery.

Sunday's escape from the penitentiary in Reau in the French capital's southeastern suburbs took just minutes, the prison authority said, adding that no one had been injured.

Faid was convicted for the murder of the policewoman along with two accomplices, all considered involved in the deadly shooting. It was then found burnt out by local police.

Faid has been behind bars since mid-2011 for breaking the terms of his parole over past convictions for bank robberies and brazen heists of cash-in-transit vehicles.

Adidas warns customers of potential data breach
This group made a claim on June 26 that it had obtained access to several bits of stolen information from the company's customers. The swiped data included the usernames and encrypted passwords of Adidas customers, as well as their contact information.

Armed with a pistol, he briefly took four guards hostage before escaping in a waiting getaway auto.

A union representative at Reau Prison, Martial Delabroye, told BFM television that two men dressed in black, wearing balaclavas and police armbands entered in the prison to look for Faid.

Faid was eventually recaptured six weeks later at a hotel in an industrial area on the outskirts of Paris.

He wrote that he had watched the film dozens of times to ideal his bank-robbing prowess.

"In the corner of his mind, he never lost the idea of escaping".

The helicopter, which was registered in Belgium, landed in the prison's courtyard at around 11.20am and was later found partially burned.
