  • YouTube Music and YouTube Premium come to UK and 17 other countries - news

YouTube Music Premium, as that is called, is £10 a month, though you can get three months free for a limited time.

In case you happened to miss all of our previous coverage of YouTube Music, just know that this is supposed to be Google's future of music.

YouTube Music has been available in the U.S. for quite some time, but is essentially the video streaming service's take on a music streaming service. In other words, YouTube Music Premium is primarily a music-focused service, while YouTube Premium offers access to both music and video content - effectively combining Google Play Music and YouTube Red.

YouTube Music has just been launched by Google with the internet giant boasting the app has been created to "make the world of music easier to explore and more personalised than ever". No timetable has been given on that situation, though.

Google has rolled-out YouTube Music and YouTube Premium in Europe in an effort to compete with the likes of Apple Music, Tidal and Spotify.

If interested in either, you can sign-up here and here. That's on top of the £12 fee for Google Play Music/YouTube Music (if you already had GPM you get YTM by default).

In addition, anyone in these countries can sign up to YouTube Premium - the company's ad-free service, which includes access to the site's original content catalog. Also launching Monday, "YouTube Originals" are a roster of new shows made in collaboration with popular YouTube personalities and celebrities that Google is hoping you'll find so compelling you'll shell out an extra £2/$2 per month.

YouTube Music aims to carve a chunk of the music market away from Spotify and Pandora. We got you. You can also search by lyrics (even if they're wrong).

View YouTube vids in the background on a mobile device whilst using another app. Current Google Play Music subscribers in all other countries will automatically receive access to YouTube Music Premium at their current price.

Background playback is a particularly important feature of both YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium.

The service, which includes children's shows like the Karate Kid-inspired "Cobra Kai" and a gaming app, is priced at 11.99 euros per month. "You'll still be able to access all of your purchased music, uploads and playlists in Google Play Music just like always", explained Google in blog post.
