The game uses an Epic Games account for this, but there are certain limitations. It doesn't name Sony specifically, but we know that's who's behind the block. It doesn't help the developer. You can blame Sony's increasingly aggravating opposition to cross-platform play. It doesn't help the player.

Fornite Save the World is the mode the game launched with in July 2017 allowing for cooperative play against hordes of AI-controlled enemies. "So, I just get stuck in who this is helping".

You can nearly understand Sony wanting to block cross-platform access with the Xbox. Right now, if you want to play games with your friends that own a PlayStation 4, you have to go out and buy a PlayStation 4 yourself.

Fortnite was indeed available on the Nintendo Store at that time, bringing another 2 million Fortnite accounts to the famous battle royale title.

The BBC , CNBC, Sky, Variety and others have posted the story and the BBC managed to get a weak statement from Sony.

Players were rightfully furious about the restriction. More than 125 million people have played the game since it launched on July 27, 2017, Epic Games announced Wednesday, according to Insider. The executive said that there are a lot more games in the works which will be shared over the coming weeks and months and further stated that Nintendo's strategy for E3 is to show games for the next six to nine months.

Acknowledging that Sony's choices regarding cross-platform play are theirs to make, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime explained Nintendo's commitment to cross-play comes from wanting to embrace the developer's vision.
