Rafael Nadal unsure if he will defend French Open title in 2019

Nadal's celebration was restrained - throwing his arms skywards and turning to his entourage including coach and fellow Mallorcan Carlos Moya and his uncle Toni who stood down past year after his nephew Nadal reached La Decima. "I did it in the past when I was much younger, quicker, because I played back to back".

The semifinals of the French Open was a different scenario. That did not prevent his uncle from delivering some tactical advice ahead of the final.

The understatement was classic Toni but there was nothing understated about Nadal himself.

"He managed to do it well". Three hours later, the score read 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 as the world number one added yet another feather to his legacy of French Open titles. But I never have been insane about all this kind of stuff.

"It's wonderful, I can't describe my feelings because it's not even a dream to win here 11 times", said an emotional Nadal after the final.

The 21-year-old Nadal became the first man since Bjorn Borg in 1980 to win three successive titles at Roland Garros.

Thiem wasted a break point in the seventh game as Nadal collected a time violation for taking too long to serve. "I don't think about the rankings at all today, no?"

We picked up a victor in Friday's semi-final with Rafa Nadal comprehensively thrashing Juan Martin Del Potro, to cover the -6.5 game handicap easily. So there was mild concern when Nadal called for the trainer for treatment.

There was late anxiety for Nadal as the predicted thunderstorms loomed and he needed his left forearm massaged after beginning to suffer from cramp.

Nadal is 50-2 on the surface in that span.

Rafael Nadal says a decision will be made in the "coming months" on whether he will defend his French Open title next year.

Nadal won the first set 6-4.

Woman Rescued After Getting Head Stuck In Truck’s Exhaust Pipe
In a tell-all piece, she told Stephen Wiblemo what went through her head before she jammed it into the pipe. "So I tried it". The first time, she was able to get it out unassisted.

The problem for the 24-year-old was that his serve wasn't co-operating. Since then, the Spaniard has been imperious. Again, Nadal finished the tournament without having dropped a set. Could Thiem provide us with a classic final? He won the first six points and broke for 2-0.

Thiem's serving and shot-making under pressure were among his principle weaknesses in losing the first set. The French Open statisticians are nicer than they should be, as all but one of Thiem's 19 errors in that stretch were unforced (officially, 12 were unforced and seven were forced).

It was a tall ask for Thiem to take the battle the full distance as Nadal had never been beaten in a major final with a two-set advantage.

The first set had taken 57 minutes, in stiflingly humid conditions, but there was to be no let-up for the underdog in the second.

But he could not match Nadal's point-by-point consistency and intensity on Sunday.

In greenback terms that comes out at $2.6m, making it the smallest winner's prize of the year's four Grand Slam events and almost $1m less than the richest tournament the US Open which paid its 2017 winners - Nadal and Sloane Stephens - $3.7m each.

The crowd cheered when Zidane was shown on the big screen.

He courageously saved three break points to start the third, yet stumbled in his ensuing service game. He converted the second to make the score 2-1.

The 10-time champion is playing Dominic Thiem. He also won the U.S. Open that year.

The trophy was carried into the Court Philippe Chatrier in a brown box during a brief ceremony before play begins and unveiled by the two stars of music and screen. The Spaniard's 11th Monte Carlo title and his eighth Rome title were his 31st and 32nd Masters titles, respectively, breaking a tie with Djokovic, who has won 30.

Krejcikova and Siniakova, who are both 22, were playing in their fifth major tournament together. For all the hand-wringing in years past over what would happen to US women's tennis after the Williams sisters, they seem to be in pretty good shape.

They knocked out the top-seeded pair of Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic in the quarterfinals.
