  • Dustin Johnson back to world No 1 after St Jude victory

After a slow start Sunday, Johnson made two birdies on the back nine to cruise to victory.

"What a cool way to end the day, to hole out that shot on 18", Johnson said on CBS's broadcast. The eagle put Johnson at 19-under for the tournament.

Dustin Johnson has regained the world No 1 spot by winning the St Jude Classic in Memphis. "If I can get a good read and good speed, they're going to go in".

Ricky Werenski got to 10 under but bogeyed No. 18 to finish with a 68.

Johnson entered the final day at TPC Southwind in a share of the lead with Andrew Putnam but was quickly handed the initiative when his fellow American made a double-bogey on the first. He shot 72 and finished at 13 under.

"I didn't really have it today but I was able to close out the round with a couple of birdies and get it back to even", he said. Johnson turned in the lowest score under par by a victor here since David Toms at 20 under in 2003 - before the course was redesigned dropping par from 71 to 70 after the 2004 tournament.

Johnson admitted he couldn t be happier with his form as he aims to claim a second US Open after his victory at Oakmont in 2016.

At least until his dramatic walk-off eagle.

It was his second PGA Tour win of 2018.

Johnson will hardly be intimidated by the little-known Putnam, the only legitimate threat if he plays half decently. I've earned my way here. Johnson was in the intermediate rough to the right of the fairway, and the ball bounced twice before rolling into the cup to bring fans to their feet. Johnson said the course and not playing only four times in April and May combined prompted his decision to play here before going to Shinnecock Hills.

Trump and Kim sign agreement on denuclearization

Watch the incredible shot below.

J.B. Holmes (67) was third, 10 shots off the victor at nine under. Phil Mickelson had a 65 and was at six-under.

After an opening-round 4-under 66 he played the next three rounds in 1-over par. Snedeker turned in a bogey-free round with eight birdies needing only 22 putts. He squared two bogey-5 at 10 and 18 (tee ball in the water), outpaced by six birdies at 11, 12, 15, 17, 3 and 8.

Nordqvist won the 54-hole event in 2015 and 2016 on Stockton Seaview's Bay Course and finished second a year ago.

In position to reclaim the No. 1 ranking with a victory, Johnson had a 65 to match Putnam at 15-under 195.

On the 482-yard par-4 seventh hole, Thornberry reached the green in 2 and sunk a 20-foot putt for birdie.

"I'm driving it well, I'm really hitting my irons well, my wedges are really good, so I'm really looking forward to going into next week".

Then Johnson hit a drive 359 yards on the par-4 13th, leaving him 95 yards to the pin. Instead, he rolled in the putt to keep his lead, and birdied the 13th to increase it to three.

Johnson will be among the favourites to win the U.S. Open starting on Thursday at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course in NY and he is confident of repeating his 2016 victory in the year's second major.
