  • Trump says 'let Russia back in' as he heads to G-7 summit

U.S. president Donald Trump has injected fresh drama into an already tense meeting of the G7 nations as he called for Russian Federation to be reinstated. "Not just the United Kingdom but Canada, Germany, Japan - these aren't foes, these are friends", he told The Associated Press at a technology conference. He said that he didn't blame them for what he saw as an unbalanced trade relationship which hurts the U.S.

The president has questioned privately why he should attend the G7 at all, according to a person familiar with the conversations, but was advised that skipping the meeting would appear as though he's backing down.

The U.S. president is lashing out on several fronts. Mulroney began working with Trudeau past year.

Donald Trump linked American military spending to the European Union's trade surplus with the United States. Mulroney and Trump are also known to have been friends.

In Germany, top officials called for Europe to remain unified in the face of rising trade tensions with the United States even as they maintained that America remained its closest partner outside of the continent.

The Canadian tariffs target $264 million in Minnesota products headed to Canada, adding $35 million to the cost of exports. The tariffs came into effect on imports from Canada and the other originally exempted nations this month.

And Roland Paris, a former foreign policy adviser to Trudeau, jabbed on Trump on Twitter: "Big tough guy once he's back on his airplane". Pre-summit reports from the White House suggested that the president even considered skipping the summit altogether.

Mr. Trudeau especially objected to the Trump administration's justification of the tariffs, saying Ottawa isn't a national security threat to Washington.

New Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte threw his weight on Friday behind U.S. President Donald Trump's call for Russian Federation to be included once more into Group of Seven meetings. Kudlow said Trump won't let people "take pot shots at him" and that Trudeau "should've known better". "Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", he said.

He and Kim are parents to daughter North, four, two-year-old son Saint, two and baby girl Chicago, who was born in January. While the families were fiercely competitive, the respective teams also delivered some laugh-inducing answers.

After Trump departed for Singapore for a highly anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Trudeau criticized Trump for triggering a trade dispute and said Canada would retaliate with tariffs against the U.S.

- Trudeau added that Trump "will continue to say what he says", but G7 countries made significant progress on matters of economy, female empowerment, environment and jobs.

Canadian journalist Sean Craig got to the bottom of the brow-troversy by noting that Trudeau's left eyebrow is thicker than the left one, making it look like it slopes differently than his right eyebrow.

- White House trade advisor Peter Navarro ups the ante, telling Fox News that there's a "special place in hell" for Trudeau, who he accuses of engaging in "bad-faith diplomacy" with Trump.

"[Trudeau] really kind of stabbed us in the back", Kudlow said.

"This I've never seen before".

Canada's dairy industry is tightly controlled with a quota system and restricted imports.

"Canada does not conduct its diplomacy through ad hominem attacks".

He said: "Why are we having a meeting without Russian Federation in the meeting?"
