According to BBC, Canada, the U.S., the U.K., France, Italy, Japan, and Germany agreed on "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade", as well as, the importance to fight protectionism.

The top White House economic adviser accused Canada's prime minister on Sunday of betraying President Donald Trump with "polarizing" statements on USA trade policy that risked making the American leader look weak on the eve of a historic summit with North Korea.

Trump announced the withdrawal on Saturday via Twitter after Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau said his country would move forward with retaliatory tariffs against the U.S.in response to tariffs Trump recently implemented.

The G7 meeting collapsed in farce as Trump left early to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for a summit in Singapore, refusing to sign a communique produced by the group.

Speaking in her first interview since the G7 summit in Canada, the chancellor said the European Union would continue preparing countermeasures to U.S. metal tariffs.

US President Donald Trump's revocation of support for a joint communique with other leaders at the G7 summit was "sobering and a little depressing", German Chancellor Angela Merkel said late Sunday, June 10.

Trump's trade adviser Peter Navarro also lashed out on Sunday at Trudeau's statements, saying they represent "bad faith".

"We're like the piggy bank that everybody is robbing", the US President said at a press conference before exiting from the two-day summit in Quebec.

The centre-right leader said a tariff-free area among G7 allies would be an ideal outcome, but she made clear that any talks about such a trade bloc would have to include non-tariff barriers to trade as well as free access to public tenders.

Trump dismissed Trudeau's comments as "false statements" before announcing the U.S. would withdraw from the communique.

But Trudeau later contradicted the president: "We will not, can not sign a trade deal that expires every five years".
