Britain's biggest vehicle manufacturer, Jaguar Land Rover, is to transfer all production of its Land RoverDiscovery model from the West Midlands to a plant in Slovakia, potentially putting hundreds of agency jobs at risk.
JLR had already announced in 2016 it would produce Discovery models in Slovakia, but only said the manufacture would be split.
It stressed that it remains committed to the United Kingdom as it outlined plans to invest hundreds of millions in upgrading its plants in Solihull and Halewood to build to the next versions of hybrid and electric Range Rover models.
The company, owned by India's Tata Motors, builds almost one in three of Britain's 1.7 millions cars but is producing its first electric vehicle, the I-Pace, in Austria.
The decision is due to the scale of a redevelopment needed at Solihull to cater for a completely new version of both the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport.
The Discovery has been made at Solihull since it was first launched by Land Rover in 1989 and is now in its fifth generation. It will affect around a third of the 300-acre Solihull factory site.

The manufacturer said the new Range Rover Velar, the Jaguar E-PACE and the Land Rover Discovery helped it sell 48,281 vehicles during the month, a 6.1 per cent rise on the same period in 2017.
The opening of the Nitra plant was originally meant to take pressure off JLR's United Kingdom factories, sharing Discovery production with the Solihull plant.
In the United Kingdom, the company said it was "impacted by consumer uncertainty surrounding diesel models, Brexit and vehicle taxation".
