Looking for news you can trust?

"He really kinda stabbed us in the back", top USA economic adviser Larry Kudlow said of Mr Trudeau on CNN's State Of The Union. "You know, it's like the gig is up".

Trump cited a press conference held by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the reason for his about face, and senior advisers to the President matched Trump's rhetoric in Sunday show appearances, calling Trudeau's typically mild-mannered remarks a "betrayal", and saying there was a "special place in hell" for leaders like him. "He did a whole disservice to the whole G-7".

U.S. President Donald Trump throws the G7's efforts to show a united front into disarray after he became angry with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and instructed his representatives NOT to endorse the summit's joint communique.

President Trump's chief economic adviser accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of stabbing the USA and fellow G-7 negotiators in the back with "amateurish" verbal attacks during a domestic press conference.

Navarro appeared on "Fox News Sunday", and Kudlow was on CNN's "State of the Union" and CBS' "Face the Nation" and Harper spoke on Fox's "Sunday Morning Futures".

Trump G-7
Donald Trump and Justin Trudeau have been at loggerheads over trade tariffs

In her own tweet, Green Party leader Elizabeth May says Trudeau is handling what she calls Trump's outbursts and bullying as well as anyone, and that all Canadian leaders need to support the prime minister.

"In terms of the approach that governments choose to take, Canada does not believe that ad hominem attacks are a particularly appropriate or useful way to conduct our relations with other countries", Freeland said.

Kudlow had been negotiating nicely with Trudeau at the summit in Quebec and the USA had agreed to join the joint communique, but Trump pulled out after he felt betrayed by Trudeau's news conference where the prime minister called Trump's tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel exports "insulting".

It comes after Trudeau explained his position at a news conference in which he outlined the difficulties in moving forward with the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The acrimonious fallout from the G7 began after Mr Trump watched Mr Trudeau's end-of-summit press conference. "Now, POTUS (president of the United States) is not gonna let a Canadian prime minister push him around, push him, POTUS, around, President Trump, on the eve of this", Kudlow said. He told CNN's Jake Tapper that "of course" Trump's tweets about Trudeau actually had to do with North Korea "in large part". "I have made it clear to the president that [imposing retaliatory tariffs] is not something we relish doing, but it's something that we absolutely will do".
