"If there is an agreement and there's progress (after the June 12 summit), and the (UN's) sanctions are lifted, I expect Singapore's trade (with North Korea) will grow", said Mr Lee.

About the personal letter delivered to Mr. Trump from Mr. Kim last week, he said, "The letter was just a greeting".

Authorities imposed tight security around the summit venue and related luxury hotels - including installing extra pot plants outside Kim's expected accommodation to obstruct reporters' views.

Kim and Trump both arrived in Singapore a few hours apart on Sunday.

She led a North Korean delegation to the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

The Japanese prime minister will have been encouraged by Trump's insistence - during a joint Rose Garden press conference - that the summit will be only the start of a process and his vow to raise the issue of Japanese abductees in the North.

In his first public comments since arriving, Kim said Singapore's role would be recorded in history if the summit was a success. China and South Korea would have to sign off on any legal treaty.

After cutting short his participation over the icy reception, Trump veered within hours from espousing a great relationship with the US allies to tweeting that his host, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, had been "Very dishonest & weak" in post-summit remarks.

Trump and other top USA officials have promised a "bright future" for the North if it quickly relinquishes its nuclear weapons - including economic inducements and a security agreement.

She said Sung Kim, the US ambassador to the Philippines, who has taken the lead on policy negotiations with the North, was set to hold a working group with a North Korean delegation at 10 a.m. Monday.

The meeting was briefly canceled by Trump. Tensions flared between Trump and US allies over his protectionist economic policies and decisions to exit the Iran nuclear deal and Paris climate accord.

But in their joint appearance, the mercurial United States president also displayed his instinct to make the sensitive, technical diplomatic effort into a dramatic world-stopping event.

Lee said he hoped the summit would lead to greater "security and stability" in the region.

More than 1,000 people paid for a photo with the Kim-Trump lookalikes over the weekend.

"We would win that war thousand times out of a thousand", he said.

During a security lockdown inside and outside Singapore's five-star St Regis hotel before the arrival of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday, only two journalists moved freely along the blockaded street, flanked by crowds held back by police.

Trump very publicly claimed his tough talk on Twitter had brought a breakthrough and Kim encouraged his claim by blowing up a supposed weapons depot in front of Western news cameras and releasing three American prisoners for Trump to greet on their return home.

The United States and North Korea have been in a technical state of war for decades after the eruption of the 1950-1953 Korean War, which pitted U.S. -led U.N. troops backing Seoul against Pyongyang's forces that were aided by China.

Rodman first visited North Korea in 2013 with members of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, and in 2014 put together a team of North Korean basketball players for an exhibition match marking Kim's birthday.

The host nation of Tuesday's U.S.

Trump has said he wants to strike a deal to get the North to give up its nuclear weapons.

"But I've said it many times, who knows?"

"Our relations with North Korea depend on the global situation, and particularly on the UN Security Council's resolutions and its decisions", said Mr Lee.

A US official cited by Bloomberg said Trump intends to meet one-on-one with Kim at the start of the meeting.
