Hamilton feels Ferrari will 'falter' in F1 title battle

  • Number one Sebastian Vettel celebrates after winning the Canadian Grand Prix

But the four-time world champion said it could have been worse.

"Some of the marshals were already celebrating", he said.

His Q3 time of 1:10.776s was nearly a tenth of a second faster than Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas.

Daniel Ricciardo, a victor two weeks ago in Monaco in another race panned for being tiresome, brought his Red Bull in third, just ahead of defending champion Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes.

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton believes Ferrari will "falter" in the Formula One championship battle.

Vettel ruled from lights-to-flag at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in an emphatic display as he crossed the line ahead of Valtteri Bottas with Red Bull's Max Verstappen in third. Today I think we had a couple of small lock ups, but as you continue to push the setup there are areas that can be affected.

Hamilton is looking to equal Schumacher's record of seven career Canadian GP wins.

Mercedes were never in the victory equation, having not got engine updates ready in time for the race while Ferrari and Red Bull both had new parts.

"I think Ferrari have had a slightly better package all round, they've been doing a slightly better job so we've got to do more". At the end I was just praying the vehicle stays fine, nothing would break.

Trump blasts Canadian PM as 'meek, dishonest'
Navarro appeared on " Fox News Sunday ", and Kudlow was on CNN's " State of the Union " and CBS' "Face the Nation" and Harper spoke on Fox's "Sunday Morning Futures".

They should have new pieces for the next race June 24 in Le Castellet in France.

Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz of Renault, Esteban Ocon of Force India and Charles Leclerc of Sauber also finished in the points.

The pair were eliminated in Q1, along with Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly and Williams duo Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin.

While Vettel made a clean getaway from the start, with Verstappen nearly passing Bottas, there was chaos behind when Williams' Canadian Lance Stroll squeezed Toro Rosso's Brendon Hartley into the wall. "If that comes together I think we can do quite a big jump and then hopefully the engine and putting it all together will help us to be there tomorrow".

"Yesterday the vehicle balance was great into Turn Ten", he continued, "and usually the last sector is my strongest at this track, but I was just struggling with massive bumps into Turn Ten".

The likely reason is, at the first race the pink-striped Pirelli was used two weeks ago in Monaco, Red Bull was the only team to really extract a good race pace from it without suffering from too much graining or degradation.

After 42 laps, sadly, Fernando Alonso's 300th Grand Prix weekend came to an end when, chasing 10th, he was called in to pit and retire.

And during the race, Hamilton was affected by an engine-cooling problem that required an early pit-stop.
