Trump Calls Justin Trudeau 'Very Weak And Dishonest'

Hours earlier, he criticised the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for "being so indignant" at the imposition of U.S. tariffs, and railed against French President Emmanuel Macron for his alliance with Trudeau.

"I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!" he added.

"He can take that nation and truly make it a great nation so it is a one-time shot and I think it is going to work out very well", Mr. Trump said. Why are we having a meeting without them?

Trump, who angered Washington's top allies last week when he imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico, issued a broad indictment of global trade, with swipes at the G7 and India.

Trump was departing the Canadian summit several hours early, heading to Singapore for his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un on what he called a "mission of peace".

Trudeau refused, and the meeting was off the table, but the lead ministers from both countries talked trade on the sidelines of the G7 leaders' talks on Friday.

He said the USA required fair access to markets and an end to unfair trade practices, telling reporters the "United States has been taken advantage of for decades and decades".

In a lengthy press conference ahead of his departure on Saturday, Trump said he spoke to world leaders about trade policies and called for the elimination of tariffs, trade barriers or subsidies.

Trump also repeated an earlier proposal that US trading partners should drop all trade barriers, including tariffs and subsidies to industries and producers in their own countries.

Trump cited progress on reaching an agreement on the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico, saying the final outcome would lead either to an improved trade deal or separate pacts with the two United States neighbours.

At a news conference held in Charlevoix, Canada, Trudeau announced that all seven countries in the summit had agreed on "a joint communique".

President Trump recaps his participation at a "tremendously successful" G7 summit, says trade, tariffs and immigration topped the agenda.

"But you have to ask that question to President Obama", Trump said.

The statement made no reference to Russian Federation being invited back into the G7, but the leaders did say they would continue "to engage with Russian Federation on addressing regional crises and global challenges, where it is in our interests".

The communique, which appeared to have papered over the cracks that have surfaced in the G7, said the leaders of the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Italy, Germany and Japan agreed on the need for "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade" and the importance of fighting protectionism.

In a statement, a spokesman for Trudeau did not address Trump's insults.

He said that he did not blame G7 leaders for the "unfair" trade deals, but previous USA presidents. "We can't lose it", he said. "And we have many deals like that", Trump said, according to PTI.

"The president will continue to say what he says at various occasions", Trudeau said. Canada is focused on maintaining a trilateral pact, the official said.
