  • Floyd Mayweather is the highest paid athlete in the world according to Forbes

Virat Kohli is the only Indian who makes the cut in the list of the world's highest-paid athletes according to Forbes.

Each year up until 2021, his salary increases by a million each year and given his market value, it shouldn't be a surprise that his earnings through endorsements also see an increase.

The starting income for the 2018 list was a record $22.9m, up $1.5m from the previous year, largely due to soaring salaries in the National Basketball Association.

Former welterweight king Mayweather, who came out of retirement to face McGregor in Las Vegas, topped the rankings for the 4th time in 7 years.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. ranked number one, raking in a whopping $275 million during a year that included his highly publicized fight with UFC star Conor McGregor.

There were four Boston-based athletes on the list, led by Irving at $36.1 million.

Floyd Mayweather is the champ at making money.

Williams was the only woman to feature in the top 100 last year, but her prize money dropped from Dollars 8 million to USD 62,000 this year after she gave birth to her daughter, Alexis, in September. Endorsement incomes are an estimate of sponsorship deals, appearance fees and licensing income for the 12 months through June 1 based on conversations with dozens of industry insiders.

Bison gores woman who got too close at Yellowstone
There have been several incidents already in the park this summer, with four people injured by wildlife in the last few months. In 2017, there was only one incident at Yellowstone of a visitor being injured by a bison while 2015 saw five such incidents.

Salaries and prize money are up significantly, but endorsement earnings fell for the second straight year to Dollars 877 million as companies watch their sports marketing budgets.

For the first time since 2010, there was not a single woman on the list.

United States boxer Floyd Mayweather has re-claimed the crown of the world's top earning athlete, but no women, or Australians, made the list.

Ronaldo has been the highest paid athlete the two previous years but fell to third.

In comparison, Charlotte Hornets basketball player Nicolas Batum tails 2018's top 100 list with $22.9 million in total income, meaning that there's at least a $10 million gap between him and Patrick, 2017's second-highest-paid woman in sports.

In the top 100 list the National Football League had 18 athletes, 14 were baseball players and nine were footballers.
