  • Manuel Lanzini

Argentina have called up Enzo Perez to replace the unfortunate Manuel Lanzini.

The World Cup finals kick off in Russian Federation next week and the 25-year-old West Ham United player was expected to be a starter in manager Jorge Sampaoli's squad.

The West Ham United forward ruptured his cruciate knee ligament in training on Friday, Argentina confirmed on their official Twitter page.

Anterior cruciate ligament injuries usually require at least three months to heal, which means that not only is Lanzini going to miss the showpiece event in Russian Federation, but he is also expected to be on the sidelines when West Ham begin their new season.

Trump keeps G7 attendance short at tense summit
They should let Russian Federation come back in, because we should have Russian Federation at the negotiating table. The Manoir Richelieu is the site of the G7 leaders summit in La Malbaie, Quebec.

Argentina are in Group D at Russian Federation 2018, beginning their campaign against Iceland on June 16.

Lanzini fights for the ball with a sparring during a training session as part of the preparation for the Fifa World Cup Russia at training Camp on May 16, 2018 in Buenos Aires.

Lanzini made 29 appearances for West Ham last season, scoring five goals and creating nine assists. An injury like this could also see him out for a portion of the EPL season with West Ham.

Interestingly, Lanzini's selection by manager Jorge Sampaoli at the first instance did not go down too well with some Argentine fans.
