Famed Chef Anthony Bourdain dead, CNN reports

  • Anthony Bourdain

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly hard time", the network said. The travel and food series, which features cuisines and stories from around the world, has won several Emmy Awards as well as a 2013 Peabody Award. I am so very sad.

CNN confirmed the death on Friday. Bourdain also said in an interview with People Magazine last month that he'd like to continue working for the rest of his life, saying retirement was not for him.

Bourdain leaves behind a daughter, 11-year-old Ariane.

"I don't think you can overstate what a big impact that was, he really opened people's eyes to what was possible for people's careers", he said.

Anthony Bourdain was my best friend. "An exceptional human being, so inspiring & generous".

Cooper dedicated his entire broadcast of "Anderson Cooper 360" to Bourdain, who he said was "one of this countries storytellers". My love and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones.

Bourdain was born in NY, grew up in New Jersey and called himself a bad New Yorker - admitting that he tended to revisit the same places he had been going to for years. "Success beyond his wildest dreams".

Queen Elizabeth Celebrates Her 92nd Birthday at Trooping the Colour Parade
The monarch's husband, Prince Philip , was absent from this year's event, as well as her great-grandson, Prince Louis . All eyes were on Meghan's stunning white wedding gown by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy on her wedding day.

"Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did", her statement read.

Argento, who recently made headlines by boldly addressing Harvey Weinstein rape allegations at the Cannes Film Festival, was just as nakedly honest in a Twitter post Friday.

As president, Barack Obama sat down for some bun cha in Hanoi, Vietnam, with Bourdain in an episode of "Parts Unknown" in 2016.

Even amid the frenzy of a busy TV production, those who crossed paths with Anthony Bourdain noticed something that still lingers.

In 1999 he wrote a New Yorker article, "Don't Eat Before Reading This", that became a best-selling book in 2000, "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly".

First he hosted "A Cook's Tour" on the Food Network, then moved to "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" on the Travel Channel. He went on to work as a chef at several high-profile restaurants in NY and Washington before launching a TV career. According to CNN, the cause of death was suicide.

If you or someone you know may be struggling with suicidal thoughts you can call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) any time of day or night or chat online.
