Top Republican Paul Ryan says Trump shouldn't pardon himself

  • Ryan 'Obviously' Trump shouldn't pardon himself

The Department of Justice held two briefings on Trump's orders after House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., had asked for documents concerning the informant.

Though fellow House Intelligence Committee member Trey Gowdy (R-SC), also came out in support the FBI's use of an informant on the Trump campaign, Politico calls Rooney's remarks "the most forceful repudiation to date from a Republican lawmaker".

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Texas accused House Speaker Paul Ryan of defending the "deep state" and said that his congressional colleagues were talking about replacing him for the first time.

Ryan also rejected Trump's claim that FBI investigators illegally placed an informant inside his campaign.

"SPYGATE could be one of the biggest political scandals in history!" the president wrote last month, one of a flurry of adrenalized tweets on the topic.

Both Ryan and House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Trey Gowdy attended a classified briefing last month following reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation used an informant in its Russian meddling probe.

The Justice Department is conducting an investigation related to an unauthorized leak of information by a former staffer on the Senate Intelligence Committee. "Do we need to look at other choices?'" Gaetz said.

There was no doubt entering Thursday's semifinals that there would be an American woman advancing to the final of the French Open. Stephens can join Serena Williams and Jennifer Capriati as the only American women to win a French Open title since 1987.

Democrats made similar comments immediately after the briefing.

Dobbs then launched into a tirade against Ryan, asking why Republicans don't say, "Mr".

Ryan also noted that he has seen no evidence of collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, which special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating.

Ryan's comments Thursday echo the conclusion of a House Intelligence Committee report released earlier this year.

"I have seen no evidence to the contrary of the initial assessment that Chairman Gowdy has made", Ryan said Wednesday. But they eventually relented after pressure from Trump, Nunes and Ryan.

The department originally denied Congress access to any of the documents, citing national security concerns. Conservatives are demanding a vote on a much harsher bill and nothing else, and they're blaming Ryan for failing to stop the moderates. He demanded a Justice Department inquiry of the matter and dubbed the matter "SPYGATE" in repeated posts on Twitter.

The comments came as Mueller's investigation, which includes possible illegal obstruction of the Russian Federation probe by the president, entered its second year. He had previously said the lawyers wanted a briefing.
