  • It all comes down to this for Bryan Colangelo

The Philadelphia 76ers' general manager and president of operations Bryan Colangelo resigned today following revelations that his wife used burner Twitter accounts to trash players and the management of the National Basketball Association team.

Colangelo has denied using all but one of the Twitter accounts in question.

An investigation done by a firm independent of the Sixers concluded that Colangelo's wife, Barbara Bottini, had been operating multiple Twitter accounts that divulged team secrets and insulted multiple players.

76ers managing partner Josh Harris released a statement after accepting Colangelo's resignation.

We are determined to continue the tremendous progress we have made over the last two seasons in our quest to win an NBA Championship.

"We do not believe Mr Colangelo established the Twitter accounts or posted content on those accounts", read the Sixers' statement.

Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown commented Thursday on his role as the temporary leader of basketball operations following the resignation of Bryan Colangelo.

The Philadelphia 76ers and president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo have agreed to part ways, the team announced Thursday.

"Her actions were a seriously misguided effort to publicly defend and support me".

The accounts had published tweets that were critical of 76ers players, coaches, and executives, and appeared to contain sensitive information about the team and players, including player health. This development arrives three days after the Sixers hired a law firm to investigate Colangelo's alleged accounts.

"I think Bryan recognizes like that as well, that these teams are like families and it can get to a point where it becomes dysfunctional and I think that's where they found themselves right now".

"We can not conclude that Mr. Colangelo was aware of the Twitter accounts prior to the May 22 press inquiry".

Colangelo also said that his wife had tweeted information that was inaccurate and filled with conjecture. According to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, though, the "general belief within the organization is that it believes Colangelo's assertion he had no knowledge of the Twitter accounts, did not send the messages or had known the messages were being sent".

The 76ers lost to the Boston Celtics in five games in the second round of the playoffs after finishing the regular season 52-30.
