  • Analysts believe Apple will try to inject more artificial intelligence and other new powers into Siri to make it more competitive with Google’s digital assistant and Amazon’s Alexa

Without calling out Facebook by name, Apple took another swipe at the social network for its data-collection and sharing practices that precipitated the biggest privacy scandal in company history.

A new Siri app on iOS 12 called Shortcuts allows you to create verbal commands that will lead Siri to perform a number of functions you pre-program.

The first major announcement at this year's keynote was iOS 12.

Apple has also partnered Adobe, following which the format will get support in Adobe's Creative Cloud suite of apps for professional photographers, videographers and designers. Amazon, by contrast, was much more open to controlling apps with its Alexa assistant.

New features help protect users' anonymity online.

In January, investors Jana Partners LLC and the California State Teachers' Retirement System, who control $2 billion worth of Apple shares, urged Apple executives to consider the mental health issues of constant device users and to bring into play ways to restrict their use time.

Other features inlude "limit distraction" which would turn-off lock screen notifications at bedtimes to avoid "getting spun up" by prompts when perhaps one just wants to check the time.

The upcoming versions of software powering iPhone and Mac computers will block the use of so-called "cookies" from Facebook "like" buttons that can follow people from one website to another, Apple said.

Apple introduced new tools to combat smartphone addiction at its annual developer conference on Monday.

Apple, on the other hand, makes most of its money by selling devices, not ads. You can easily create your own shortcuts via drag and drop. They threw us a few bones, but developers mainly stuck to software updates, like iOS 12 and MacOS Mojave.

The software update will also let people group similar tasks together into shortcuts that can be accessed by simple phrases like "heading home". You can customize them by adding more functions to suit your need better, or make new ones from scratch completely.

"Most features Apple announced are a carbon copy of products other developers already offer", Dunn told Business Insider.

In a move to expand augmented reality to mass usage, new support is coming for AR apps. That's expected to be Apple's cheapest iPhone X successor, the model that will feature an iPhone X-like design but with less expensive components.

Apple will encourage users to share photos with their friends by suggesting such opportunities in a new "for you" tab.

Group Facetime is another new feature in iOS 12. Also, you can get some sense of how your kids use their phone by data usage. Pressing on a notification, you can tune how often you'll get them in the future from the app that sent it. Notifications are now grouped by type, app or topic.
