Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif can finally put away the medical books for a while and spend all his free time studying his playbook.

Whoever came up with the phrase "dumb jock" clearly has never met Kansas City Chiefs lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

After each off-season when Chiefs players took time off, Duvernay-Tardif returned to Montreal to continue his medical school commitments.

Though some NFL players have gone on to become doctors after their playing careers were over, Duvernay-Tardif is the first to achieve this status while still an active player in the league.

Duvernay-Tardif announced on his Twitter feed that he's going to graduate this week, and that's worth telling the world about. His Chiefs teammates have even started soliciting his medical advice in the locker room, even though Duvernay-Tardif will not begin practicing medicine until his playing days are over. Coincidentally, Reid's mother is also a graduate of McGill Medical School. "Football is an awesome opportunity in the sense that not everyone can play football and live off it". I want to focus and see how good I can be. "When you get drafted, it nearly feels like a surprise".

Soldier from Kerala dies in Kolkata from suspected Nipah
Kozhikode: Two more persons have died of Nipah infection, taking the death toll to 15 on Wednesday, health officials said . Currently, NIV-Pune is the only medical institute in the country where Nipah virus infection tests are being carried out.

Despite earning millions in the National Football League - he signed a $41.25 million, five-year contract last year - Duvernay-Tardif continued studying medicine in the offseason even after being selected by Kansas City in the 2014 draft. "Being balanced is the key to success".

"I need to make sure I pass it because it's the previous year I'm allowed to pass that exam", he said.

He was scheduled to fly back to Kansas City on Tuesday night and resume organized team activities with the Chiefs on Wednesday.

Next up for Duvernay-Tardif, besides the Chiefs' upcoming 2018 campaign, will be his residency, although it's anyone's guess when he'll have time for that. Duvernay-Tardif said he hopes that he will be able to work out a program at McGill, but he's not sure when or how it's going to happen.
