  • Prosecutors interview James Comey in Andrew McCabe probe

Or is the New York Times' scoop from yesterday a bit of old news that just happened to shake loose recently?

The multi-page letter blasted Comey over his investigation of Trump's Democratic presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton. McCabe's notes, though, suggest Trump told Rosenstein before he authored the memo to mention Russian Federation - though it was unclear in what respect, according to a person familiar with the matter. Rosenstein did not elaborate on what Trump had wanted him to say, according to the newspaper.

Former Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe wrote a confidential memo last spring recounting a conversation that provided "significant behind-the-scenes" details on the firing of former FBI director James Comey, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

NBC offered a rebuttal of Trump's rebuttal from, er ...

It is not typical for the Justice Department to announce the opening or reopening of an investigation.

Comey has acknowledged that he told Trump on multiple occasions that he was not personally under investigation. Mr. Rosenstein said it was unnecessary and did not include such a reference.

Study puts Puerto Rico hurricane deaths at 4,645
Chan School of Public Health didn't simply attempt to count dead bodies in the wake of the powerful storm. The official death toll in Puerto Rico related to Hurricane Maria has always been a controversial topic.

The next morning, Trump took to Twitter to celebrate the move.

McCabe has said that Comey knew that he authorized the disclosures to the media. It is separate from the Inspector General probe into surveillance warrants sought for an ex-Trump campaign advisor, nor will it likely cover the other GOP allegations of bias in DOJ's Trump-Russia investigation.

The alleged contents of the memo do however throw up questions about Rosenstein's future.

"It looks like two key members of the deep state are now turning on each other", Hannity said of Comey and McCabe. There may have been good reasons to fire Comey for that, but that's an argument for firing him in January or early February, not May.

After Comey was dismissed in May 2017, Rosenstein revealed that President Donald Trump wanted him to mention Russian Federation in the statement outlining reasons for Comey's firing, The New York Times reported on Wednesday. One wonders whether a conversation with one of his lawyers or a "Fox & Friends" discussion about obstruction of justice might have prompted such a self-serving tweet. Asked if his legal strategy involved an effort to undermine the probe, Giuliani said the Trump legal team "couldn't do it if they didn't have the material".

Even before the allegations against him, McCabe had become a lightning rod in the political battles over the Federal Bureau of Investigation and special counsel Robert Mueller III's probe of Russian interference in the 2016 election. Stewart replied by suggesting Trump still might be right about Federal Bureau of Investigation spying, even if no documents support him.
