  • Whitney Houston Documentary Reveals She Was Molested By Cousin Dee Dee Warwick

Whitney Houston was sexually abused by her cousin, the late American soul singer Dee Dee Warwick, according to a new documentary which premiered at Cannes.

In Whitney, director Kevin Macdonald documents Houston's life through never-before-seen video clips of the singer, candid interviews with her family and friends, and archival footage. She also responded in an interview, when asked about what makes her angry, with a deeply personal and pointed rage in proclaiming, "it bothers me that children, who are helpless, who depend on adults for security and love, it just bothers me".

In the forthcoming documentary called Whitney, family members of Whitney Houston allege the singer was abused by cousin Dee Dee Warwick during her childhood. She also had massive hit singles with the likes of "I Will Always Love You" and "It's Not Right But It's Okay".

Dee Dee Warwick was 18 years older than Houston. Not necessarily in the public, but I don't think that was a secret within the music industry. It was a woman'. They offer a rare glimpse into Whitney's upbringing, with Whitney herself pointing to the pressure she felt to be great in a family of singers. They wouldn't talk about it on camera, but they said Whitney had said to her that something had happened. The film reportedly suggests Cissy was on tour when the abuse was going on. According to her, Whitney Houston's molestation by Dee Dee Warwick led her to not only question her own sexuality but led to her ultimately-fatal late-in-life drug problems.

The film also aims to answer why Houston's family did not step in before she accidentally drowned in February 2012.

You would never refer to a male lead as being as "strong male character" as opposed to any other kind of male character. Emilia told the host that the movement hadn't died down, but that "changing it overnight would be impossible".

Macdonald re-edited the entire film to build to Jone's emotional revelation.

"Jones continued, "(Houston) looked at me and said, 'Mary, I was molested at a young age, too. Many credit Brown for Whitney's downward spiral into drugs and depression.

This explosive claim was made by Houston's longtime assistant, Mary Jones, and substantiated by Houston's brother, Gary Garland-Houston. "So, yeah, the film changed radically in the last weeks of editing it, which I guess, as a detective, is the result you want".

Houston and Brown had one child together, daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. A move that later on in his own memoir, Brown says, "I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney's life, Whitney would still be alive today". She enjoyed enormous success in the 1980s and 90s, selling more than 170 million albums and starring in the box-office smash movie The Bodyguard. She was found unresponsive in the bathrub and died six months later after being in a coma.

Houston's alleged abuser, Dee Dee Warwick died in 2008, four years before the tragic death of Whitney Houston.
