"It is the honest hope of all of the survivors that the legacy of this settlement will be far reaching institutional reform that will end the threat of sexual assault in sports, schools and throughout our society", attorney John Manly, who represents numerous victims, said in a statement. University spokeswoman Emily Guerrant said school leaders now will work on a way to pay the bill. MSU has already paid nine law firms more than $11.3 million for litigation over Nassar-related crimes.

The agreement with attorneys representing the survivors was a "global settlement", Michigan State University said.

Michigan State University will pay out at least $500 million in settlements to the victims of Larry Nassar after two days of mediation in California. The five hundred million dollar settlement is the largest payout for a sexual misconduct suit involving a university. It does not address claims against U.S. gymnastics, the United States Olympic Committee, Bela and Martha Karolyi, Twistars, John Geddert or any other parties.

Nassar treated hundreds of girls and women on Michigan State University's campus.

"We are truly sorry to all the survivors and their families for what they have been through, and we admire the courage it has taken to tell their stories", Breslin said. An unprecedented onslaught of women told a MI court that Nassar had abused them.

Some residents were trapped in their homes by damage and debris and town leaders in some communities declared states of emergency. In New York , falling trees in Newburgh claimed the lives of an 11-year-old girl in a parked vehicle and a woman who was driving.

"There will be no confidentiality agreements or non-disclosure agreements attached to the settlement", according to a joint press release from the survivors and the university.

Roughly 300 victims have come forward, saying Nassar sexually assaulted them under the guise of medical treatment. Nassar himself was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison, and then an additional 40 to 125 years, in February, after already having been sentenced to 60 years for a separate charge back in December. His sentencing in state court this year drew worldwide attention as hundreds of his victims described their abuse. In 2014 the university's investigation of allegations against Nassar turned up empty. The other defendants in the lawsuit were condemned for missing opportunities to put an end to Nassar's extensive abuse of young women at Michigan State.

The deal was announced Wednesday by Michigan State and lawyers for 332 victims.

"It is very important to see resolution on the civil side, and I hope this provides some sense of relief and closure for the survivors", Forsyth said.

"And please, your honor, stress the need to investigate how this happened", she said during the conclusion of her statement in January.

The case against Nassar shook Michigan State and led to accusations that the university covered up his abuse and ignored repeated complaints about his behavior over many years.
