Arteta favourite to land Arsenal job

  • Arteta has qualities for Arsenal job- Wenger

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol claims that the Arsenal Executives will also be meeting on Thursday to discuss who will land the job.

Arteta would also align with the new structure of the club behind-the-scenes after several high level appointments in recruitment and director roles in recent months (head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat have both arrived) as they prepared for life after Wenger.

The former Arsenal captain, who made 406 appearances for the Gunners during a nine-year spell in north London, has been touted as a possible successor to Arsene Wenger, who stepped down from his role at the end of the season after 22 years in charge.

Arteta who has been Pep Guardiola's right-hand man, assisting the Spaniard to lead Manchester City to the Premier League title is keen on returning to the Emirates after working with Guardiola just two years.

Is Arteta a good fit? That's no mean feat given the tactical nous needed to not only understand but help players understand what Pep wants.

Southgate Closes World Cup Gate On Wilshere
In midfield, Newcastle's Jonjo Shelvey has performed well recently, but last donned the Three Lions in November 2015. Hart took the decision from supervisor Gareth Southgate graciously, however is devastated by the information.

Allegri has chosen to remain in Turin, whilst Enrique's alleged demands have proved a stumbling block in negotiations.

With candidates dropping by the wayside, the path appears to be clearing for Arteta to take over at the club where he spent five seasons as a player.

'So that's why I say yes, Patrick Vieira is ready to manage Arsenal'.

According to Sportsmail, it is believed the Gunners are 90% certain that their former midfielder Mikel Arteta will replace Wenger as manager.
