While Kelly's music will still be available on Spotify, they will no longer actively promote it, the company explained in a statement.

On Thursday, the digital music platform Spotify announced new policy preventing the promotion of music from any "hateful" artist, including singer and alleged sexual predator R Kelly.

A new Pitchfork article reports that Apple Music has also removed R. Kelly's music from "featured playlists".

They also pointed out that Spotify does not "censor content because of an artist's or creator's behaviour", with R Kelly's music still being able to stream, even though it will no longer be pushed by Spotify's curators or algorithms.

A representative for R. Kelly said in a statement carried by various United States media outlets that there was no basis for the move by Spotify and that R. Kelly is innocent of the allegations against him. The musician is now accused of of multiple sexual misconduct and assault allegations, reports Rolling Stone.

R Kelly has strongly denied the claims against him.

"Spotify has the right to promote whatever music it chooses, and in this case its actions are without merit", the statement continues.

Google promises human-fooling AI 'will warn people that it is fake'
In response to the burgeoning controversy, Google released a statement claiming full disclosure will be built into the software. We'll see what that looks like when the Duplex technology rolls out in testing as a part of Google Assistant this summer.

The platform confirmed to Npr.org that the first artiste to be affected by this new development is R. Kelly, following his sexual misconduct accusation which has lingered for nearly 20 years.

"[Mr. Kelly] is innocent of the false and hurtful accusations in the ongoing smear campaign against him. he has never been convicted of a crime nor does he have any pending criminal charges against him", the statement reads, "[Spotify] is acting based on false and unproven allegations.

Afterward, there were some people who agreed with the rapper's point since he hasn't been convicted of any of the charges yet. The artist has been embroiled in a series of legal issues and allegations of battery, false imprisonment and witness tampering have been made against him. He settled multiple lawsuits with women, and was acquitted by a jury on charges of possessing child pornography.

Almost 8.5 million people listen to Kelly's music on the platform each month, according to Spotify.

Recently, a number of women have come forward to accuse R. Kelly of everything from sexual coercion and leading a sex cult to physical abuse.

As you may know, two of Bill Cosby's notable honors have been taken back and now media giant Spotify is removing Cosby from their top-ranked comedy playlist. Will popular artists be keen to let R.Kelly guest on their new track if that means it'll be invisible to Discover Weekly, Release Radar and the curated playlists, for example?
